Verdant valley, snow-capped mountains, cool breeze the Doon valley is a perfect destination for all those seeking solace and stress-free vacation. It is 35 km from Dehradun, it is also called "The Queen of Hills". It is also the gateway to the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines.

Places Of Interest

Kempty Falls: This beautiful fall is surrounded by high mountain ranges and is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,364metres above sea level. It is a place where one can unwind and enjoy the music of the fall and view of lush green valley.

Lal Tibba: It is the highest peak in Mussoorie with an altitude of over 2,290 metres above sea level, and offers a breath-taking view of the mountains that house holy shrines. At the edge of the cliff a Japanese telescope has been installed to give a view of these places.

Happy Valley: The centre of Tibetian settlement, it is situated at the short distance of Mall Road. This place came into existence when Tibetian came to India with their spiritual leader Dalai Lama before he moved to Dharamsala. It is calm and serene flanked with pine and oak trees.

Camel's Back Road: The road gets its name from the rock that resembles the hump of a camel. It stretches around a distance of about 3-4 kms from Kulri to the Library Chowk in Mussoorie. It is a paradise for photography enthusiasts as one can capture some rare and awesome photos of the valley.

Gun Hill: The second highest point of this hill station and has been christened Gun Hill because of the event of firing cannon to tell the people about the time in British colonization. It is at the altitude 2, 024 meters above the sea level.

Mussorie Lake: Recently designated as picnic spot by the development and city board authorities this lake is located at 6kms on Mussoorie-Dehradun road. This lake is formed by a waterfall, one can enjoy paddle boat and quacking of ducks when around.

Christ Church: One of the oldest churches in the Himalayan range that was built in 1836 by the British. The architectural style, the stained glass window and Gothic design depict the life of Jesus. It is a must visit place as the interiors are awe-worthy.

Sir George Everest's House: It is a house of the Geographer and surveyor Sir George Everest. It was built in 1832. It is after his name that Mount Everest has been named, he lived in Mussoorie for around 30 years. This place encapsulates some fascinating facts from his interesting and adventurous life of this man. It is around 6 kms from Gandhi Chowk/Library Bazaar, though the road is rough beyond Haathi Paon but taking vehicle would be wise.

Jwalaji Temple: A famous temple of Mussorrie, it is about 9kms west from Mussoorie atop Benog Hill. It is at 2,240 meters above the seal level, the place enshrines the deity of goddess Jwala. As per Hindu mythology she is the goddess of supreme beauty and deadly power.

The Mall: It a shopper’s delight and is the centre of the city, it is the lifeline of Mussoorie as it encapsulate all bars, restaurants, shops, hotels etc.

How To Reach

Air
The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, located 24 km from Dehradun. Daily flights of Indian Airlines and Air Deccan from this airport connect Mussoorie to Delhi.

Road
Mussoorie is a half an hour drive from Dehradun which is well connected by road to Cahndigarh and Delhi.

Rail
The nearest Railway station is Dehradun which is a quite a busy place and well connected by Northern Railways.

Best Time To Visit

Best time to visit Mussoorie is March to June and September to November. Summers are ideal for trekking or camping. The winters, though more challenging, have their own charm.
